What was supposed ta be a year of awesome Sega gaming love for me turned into something so so bad~ let me list their failures!
Phantasy Star Universe - They announced the long awaited MAG+ event which got people hyped and resubbing and stuff on both servers. 2 days later tell us the PC/PS2 servers are closing at the end of march. Real nice milking people that just resubscibed guys. - Messed up update #1: Four new area drops that were supposed to have been added at the start of MAG+ turned out not to be there after all! It only took them half the event to figure this out. - Messed up update #2: Okay so they added the missing drops but then it was found several items were now unable to be traded or sold! What the heck broke those? Ohhhhhh and the 2x Photon Art EXP boost which was supposed ta be in effect the entirety of the event was found to not have been on at all! So they decided to push it back until after the event ended! - Messed up update #3: Edward said the winners would get the time attack medals in the next update. And then they didn't get them. Sonic Team didn't feel like distributing them or just plain lied to us. Valkyria Chronicles - The final piece of dlc released doesn't have english voice acting, just japanese. Yet the full game an the three previous dlcs had english and japanese options. Talk about cheaping out on the fans. Yakuza 3 - Pre-order exclusive dlc at gamestop. Barf! Oooohh boyyyy. Just weeks before release they finally told us that just about "1%" of the games content would be cut out. Ya know just alil japanese trivia and hostess clubbing cause those wouldn't resonate with us westerners. BULLSHIT. Once people got their hands on the game it was found out several mini-games were cut. An beyond that over 20 side missons! Ya all know Yakuza series side missions right? Earn big EXP, money, items, and learn more about the people inhabiting that world including returning characters from the previous games? That kind of stuff and game balance (enjoy grinding out random battles to level up to make up for all the EXP lost from these) don't RESONATE with us. - The challenge pack dlc, which like all of the dlc was free in Japan, was exclusive to gamestop pre-order in the US. On august 31st they decided to release it to the masses... for $3.99. Oh an guess what its a 100kb unlock file meaning the dlc is already on the disc anyway. - 20 page black & white instruction manual = fail! B&W is ta be expected of them by now but a mere 20 pages to cover a game as jam packed as this (even inspite of all the crap they cut out) is just wrong! Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing - For whatever reason Segac decided to release the pc version like a week late or something. Whyyyy? No one knows! - A 360-exclusive dlc was released which turned out to be a save file that unlocked all characters and tracks all for a measily $5. Now there's no need to put in the 5 or so hours it takes to unlock that stuff playing the game. What a steal! - Another 360-exclusive dlc is avatar clothing which is stupid in its own right but why make it exclusive when they could also sell it to the PS Home crowd? - Forklift Ryo was a pre-order dlc over in europe. Everywhere else? Nopes! Of course pre-order dlc is garbage as it is but this one is made worse cause its already on the disc! And a month later they unleashed it upon the rest of the world for FOUR HUNDRED AND NINTY-NINE US PENNIES. - On the same day as Ryo dropped they always released a dlc pack which included a new track and driver and music for of course an extremely high price. For whatever reason though Segac decided to have it pulled quickly so only a small amount of people currently "own" it. It isn't above Segac to dripfeed content (see PSU) so that must be why they pulled it! Another bad thing about it is that this stuff is yet most Sonic content. The main game as it is has to much Sonic stuff and fans have said as much yet they felt we needed even more apparently. The reason it turns out this happened is because it wasn't meant to be sold to 360 owners that week, or PS3 owners for another 3 weeks. Ya this dlc was a timed-exclusive. LAME. - The version 1.01 patch for the PS3 version of this game sucked so much I deleted it! All it added was a in game button press to the PS Store on the game menu (ya like I would ever pay for dlc). So I didn't need that and it made the game worse cause no after exiting a race/mission/trial the screen would go black and music stop for 2-3 seconds! The hecks up with that?? - Crappy "17" page game manual in black & white only of course. Mentions only like a third of the characters & courses and not all of the powerup items and yet they felt the need to fill a page with the games trophy list as if anyone gives a shit about that! Sonic Classic Collection - Nooooo! Not another crappy Backbone port!!!! Yup yup the 4 main genesis Sonic games once again poorly ported to another system. How many times have they ported these games anyway and why can they not once get them right ever since Sonic Jam & last generations Sonic Mega Collection?? - Segac in all their wisdom made this game use a dsi-enhanced cart. But it has no features which use the extra dsi stuff at all! Well... except for region lock the game.... -_- Resonance of Fate - This game had a demo available for download in japan. Outside of there? Nope! But why?? Up until this point Segac had been good at releasing demos this year! Bayonetta, Yakuza 3, S&SASR, Aliens vs Predator an prolly some others. This game just wasn't worthy huh? - The english voice track is incomplete compared to the japanese one. While its good they included both why didn't they do a full english one? Cause of the 360's space limitations of course! And the unwritten rule that 360 & PS3 games released at the same time have to have to exact same content or else Microsoft will hate you forever. Last generation games released on each system had all kinds of differences but this generation thats a no go huh? Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 - "A return to momentum based gameplay" my foot. Just the first in a long string of BS from their PR team about this cruddy game. - They bullied Sonic fan communties for putting links to youtube videos showing leaked footage of the game. Like wow, big deal. As if freaking youtube videos wouldn't get around much less not exist if they aren't linked. >.> - Crappy spin saying don't judge the game until its released through official sources as if that'll make a difference! - Pricing it at $15 is such a scam considering its supposed to be an episodic game and shows yet another publisher happily raising the base price of games you don't even own. Afterburner Climax - Okays the game itself is said to be good and the price is fair at $10 so whats the prob here? That they are charging $4 for a theme based on the game. $4 for essentially 2 wallpapers (that ya can't use outside of said theme) and some different colored system icons. Wooow.... that musta took them so much effort and costs to make! Normally these kinds of things are between $1-$2 which is also a scam but still making one that costs almost half of the price of the game? wtf. - This game was briefly put on sale for $5 making it only $1 more then the theme lol Sonic Overload - This year started off simply enough with S&SASR and Sonic 4 being the Sonic games released but then came so very much more. Let's list the Sonic-named games ta come out in this year ya? -> Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing -> Sonic Classic Collection -> Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 -> Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games -> Sonic Colors -> Sonic Adventure DX -> Sonic Free Riders Pretty crazy huh?? Plus theres still a rumored port of Sonic Riders Zero Gravity for Natal! They totally need to lay off the Sonic kool-aid and build up some of their other awesome characters/series. (They won't.) Valkyria Chronicles 2 - Retailer exclusive pre-order dlc? I can't roll my eyes far back enough at lame ass moves like this! - A few weeks after release this dlc was released for all... to purchase. Segac really on a roll this year making pre-order dlc purchasable instead of free. To be fair this $5 dlc pack comes with 20 other previously unreleased pieces of dlc which in japan were sold for a hell of a lot more than $5 total. Alpha Protocol - Announcing the game won't have a sequel just weeks after the first game is kinda cruel! I mean sure the game bombed but you're not exactly enticing people to buy the remaining copies out there!! Playstation Home - From what I've read Segas been flooding the place with adverts for their latest games and virtual clothing based on those games. Really guys? You're gonna waste time and money on a chatroom thingy?? Make real games and crap!! Phantasy Star Portable 2 - They said the demo server would be shutdown Sept. 10th at 7 p.m. which is fair enough with the full game releasing only a few days later. But they didn't quite make it to 7 or 6 or 5... etc. Instead it seems they pulled the plug much earlier in the day. Perhaps even at 7 a.m.! Jerks. - Where Phantasy Star Portable had full voice acting its sequel only has it in cutscenes. Cheap localization is cheeeeaaap. - This game has a crappy black & white manual. Where's the color?! - As things currently stand our version of the game won't be getting downloadable quests/events just like we were robbed of them with the first PS Portable. - The import dlc items option is not in our version of the game meaning no free or paid dlc for us not even the stuff that promotes other Segac games! Sonic Adventure - This game was a 1 week 360 exclusive... why? - When it launched on 360 it had a demo right from the start and the same was promised for PS3 users. Instead we ended up getting the demo 3 weeks after its release. - They billed this as a Dreamcast classic but thats far from the truth since its a port of the PC release which was a port of the GC release! - Whats more they stripped the extra content from those releases and decided to sell it for $5 extra. Jackasses. Crazy Taxi - Original soundtrack is gone as are the real world locations just as this stuff was missing in the PC & PSP versions of the game (prolly GBA as well). Yet they again dare to call this a Dreamcast classic! Asses. - PS3 users didn't have ta wait to get this game but we still don't get a demo. - Naturally its another half-assed port job. Not real HD, plenty of pop-in, clipping, etc. Yet as with Sonic Adventure they felt adding stupid avatar items (aka free advertising) as "rewards" for playing the game would make up for its crappiness. Other - Takashi Iizuka: "It's more that those fans are not positive towards the recent 3D Sonic games because we've been releasing only 3D Sonic games in the past couple of years. It's hard to please both 2D and 3D fans at the same time, in the same title for instance. This is why the team decided to release two different types of Sonic games. It's always hard to dodge every negative perception or make everybody happy with just one title. So we're giving two options to the users. So, either way, you'll be pleased." Hey dude what if both the 2d and 3d game are shit? WHAT THEN?? - Takashi Iizuka: "It's something the team is not looking into at the moment. Sonic games, it's pretty clear that how good the level design is directly affects the quality of the game. The team believes the speed and the tempo is crucial. Sonic Team are the professionals at doing it. It's hard to leave it up to the users because it's quite difficult." The current Sonic Team is professionals at utilizing both speed and tempo in their gameplay simultaneously? BULLSHIT. - An interview with real life yakuza as they played Yakuza 3 left one of the yakuza saying: "I feel sorry for the people who bought the American version. SEGA USA sucks." Full interview here (beware spoilers). - Ruby Eclipse (Sega Community Manager) on the PS:P2 leaked vision phone codes: "I don't get millions of dollars to spend trying to promote this game or the franchise via ads. I get some assets and some codes, and my role from there is to try and do as much as possible to support the game with what I have. As the community manager, that's my job. - It's unfortunate to see people in support of hacking and cheating because they 'stopped the drip-feed' that wasn't even a drip-feed in the first place. What they did do was kill off any hope of promoting this series elsewhere with those codes, so kudos to them for that - I hope you enjoy your fame." Okay these points I actually agree with (aside from blaming hackers, they're 8 digit codes any number of people could've dug up with enough trial & error) because while yes it IS drip-feeding content it does suck that the little promotion they could bother to scrounge up for the game will be of little consequence now. - "Anyways though, as disappointing as it is, what's done is done and there's no point spending too much more time debating it. We did still get a major win on the community front by simply getting these items over to the west, and that's a victory that I don't think should be overshadowed by a couple cheaters." Now this is where he goes really wrong. A major win by including items that were in the game to begin with? By that train of thought we're really lucky they decided to localize C-rank equipment or any open missions or etc. All they had to do was re-name these collaborational items (some weren't even collab items anyway) and bam no pissed off trademark holders or anything. Then he ends it by calling US cheaters? Hello! Any one of us even myself could've typed into an 8 digit number and ended up with an unreleased code item. How the hell is that cheating? The vision phone and password system is in the game for all to try out! If they wanted to keep people from getting at this stuff they should've implimented it as dlc. But... oh wait. They removed the ability to download dlc into the western version of the game. Of course they won't mention THAT as a "major win", instead they'll call every person that owns the game a hacker or a cheater. Fuck that. |
